Jubilee Awards $3,000 to Outstanding Waller ISD Teachers

This holiday season, Jubilee is bringing cheer and recognition to the classrooms of Waller ISD with its inaugural Joyful Heart Award giveaway. With over 2,000 community members casting their votes, three exceptional educators have been awarded $1,000 each for their unwavering dedication to their students.

Meet the Honorees

The Joyful Heart Award recognizes teachers who have gone above and beyond to inspire and support their students. This semester’s winners are:

  • Mallory Thomas, Fifth Grade Teacher at Roberts Road Elementary
Parent Mia Wooten nominated Thomas, sharing how her son, who once dreaded school, now thrives under her guidance. “At Roberts Road Elementary, he is excelling because of Ms. Thomas’ help,” wrote Wooten. “Both my husband and I are educators, and we are so grateful to Roberts Road Elementary and Ms. Thomas for facilitating a love of learning in our child.”

  • Shauntanay Blair, English Language Arts Teacher and Athletic Director at Waller Junior High
Blair’s dedication extends beyond the classroom. Co-worker Estella Stewart praised Blair as a mentor and role model, saying, “What truly sets Coach Blair apart is her unwavering dedication to the success and well-being of her students and athletes.” Parent Kenneth Nix echoed this sentiment, noting, “She truly teaches with her heart and is making a difference in students’ lives on a daily basis.”

  • Yolonda Singleton, English Language Arts Teacher at Waller High School
Singleton’s passion for education shines through her innovative teaching methods. “Every day, she finds ways to make learning relevant to young adults, preparing them for life beyond high school,” said co-worker Sandra Pruitt. Singleton’s students admire her positive attitude and commitment to their success.

About the Joyful Heart Award

Launched in October 2024, the Joyful Heart Award is part of Jubilee’s ongoing commitment to supporting educators and fostering a love of learning in its community. Each semester, one teacher or staff member from Roberts Road Elementary, Waller Junior High, and Waller High School will be awarded $1,000, with a total of $6,000 given annually.

“We’re so excited to do this for the teachers and staff serving our young residents,” said June Tang, Jubilee Vice President and General Manager. “We appreciate their efforts in and out of the classroom to prepare their students for future success.”

Nominations for the spring semester will open March 3 and close April 13, 2025. Voting will take place April 28 through May 11, with winners announced May 19-22, 2025. Students, family members, and fellow staff members are encouraged to nominate educators who have made a significant positive impact.
