Waller ISD Buys Land for 2 More Schools in Jubilee

Waller Independent School District has closed on 143.4 acres in Jubilee for a new junior high school and high school.

The junior high school will be named Larry D. Johnson Junior High after the late founder of Johnson Development. Expected to serve 1,500 students, the school’s design will be new to the district, said Superintendent Kevin Moran. Construction could begin in 2027 with an opening in fall 2029.

The high school, which would serve 3,500 students, would be similar in design to Waller High School, with all academic, career-technical education and extra-curricular classrooms under one roof. The name of the high school has not yet been determined.

The multi-school site is located along Katy Hockley and Baethe roads. Cost for design and construction of the schools will be included in a bond package expected to go to voters in November.

“Depending on the bond outcome and our enrollment totals, we could begin construction on the high school as early as next year, with the school opening in fall 2028,” Moran said. “We’re excited that Jubilee has set aside a generous amount of land for us to build several schools to serve this growing area.”

Earlier this year, Waller ISD closed on a 16.118-acre tract in Jubilee for a new elementary school expected to accommodate approximately 850 students. The cost for the school’s design and construction is also included in the November bond package.

“Giving our residents onsite schools that will take their children from kindergarten through 12th grade has always been part of Jubilee’s master plan,” said June Tang, Vice President and General Manager of Jubilee. “Onsite schools, amenities, parks, commercial and homes to serve a wide variety of needs fulfill our vision for a true master-planned community.”

Currently, Jubilee is zoned to Roberts Road Elementary, Waller Junior High and Waller High School.

Eight builders offer homes priced from the $320,000s in Jubilee — Chesmar Homes, Coventry Homes, David Weekley Homes, Highland Homes, Newmark Homes, Perry Homes, Tri Pointe Homes and Westin Homes. Homes are built with a variety of standard wellness features often considered as upgrades in other communities.
